My family had a new baby boy when I was about to turn four. He slept in a crib in my parents' bedroom, but he soon learned how to climb out of his crib. My parents had some strange practices. When we had company over, my parents made a big show of kissing us kids good-night while sending us to bed -- something which they never did when there were no visitors around. In the mornings, my brother and I would wake up without our pillows, which had been taken from us while we slept for the overnight guests to use.
